Quick Start

Get AccessMate running on your WordPress site in minutes — activate, optionally connect an AI provider, run your first scan, and review results.

  1. Activate the plugin. No account or license needed for Free — it works immediately after activation.
  2. (Optional) Add an AI provider key in Settings — OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, or a self-hosted Ollama endpoint — to enable AI-powered "Fix" and "Explain" suggestions on issues. Skip this if you only want automated scanning.
  3. Choose your ruleset in Settings — Default Ruleset dropdown (WCAG 2.0/2.1/2.2, Section 508, Best Practice, or combined presets). Defaults to Best Practice + WCAG 2.2 AA.
  4. Run your first scan — either click Scan Page in the WordPress admin bar while browsing any live page, or go to the Dashboard tab and click a page's "Scan" button under Pages & Posts.
  5. Review results on the Dashboard (score, POUR breakdown, Issues by Page) or the full Scans report — click any issue for details, WCAG reference, and AI fix/explain (if a key is configured).
  6. Enable the visitor-facing toolbar from the Accessibility Widget tab, if you want site visitors to have on-page controls (contrast, font size, dyslexia font, etc.).
  7. Generate an Accessibility Statement from the Accessibility Statement tab, if you need one for compliance/legal purposes.
